Bullying sucks. This sad fact for many years was obscured or laughed off, but several high-profile teen suicides have galvanized an worldwide anti-bullying movement, highlighted by the immensely positive reception of the feature documentary Bully this past year.
Canadian design firm Giant Ant, wanted to do their part to add to the awareness campaign, and in January put out a call for animation and motion graphics collaborators. Working off a poignant, powerful spoken word piece by Shane Koyczan, dozens of volunteer artists brought to life 20 second segments of the soundtrack through their unique vision.
Despite only 20 days of production time for those 20 seconds, the result, which debuted online yesterday, is jaw-droppingly phenomenal. The Koyczan piece provides the emotional core—alternately melancholic, fiery, and defiant, but the art is breathtaking as well. Being tasked with only 20 seconds seems to have encouraged the artists to go all out, and the diversity and ingenuity of the sequences is really great to behold.
