Homelessness, sexuality, deathnipples!! – the 22 films that we featured in August really did cover a breadth of subjects and emotions. Taking us on a journey through scorching Greek beaches, fictional theme parks and tight-knit Cuban communities, through short films we were once again transported to places, and stories, we would never have encountered without them.

With such a range of themes, techniques and talent on show, it once again proved a difficult task condensing all we featured in August 2020 to just three highlighted picks, but despite the removal of post boxes, votes were cast and a trio selected. Garnering praise from our team for providing a “sympathetic and tender” portrayal of loneliness, a “sharp and witty comedy” that allows a deeper opportunity for introspection and an impactful watch that is “at its most powerful when it seamlessly slips reality into its fictional tale”, enjoy this 39-minute playlist and let us know your favourites in the comments below.

Editors note: though not represented in our BotM picks, August was a strong month for animation on our site with over one-third of our selected films falling into this category – you can check them out in our Animation channel.
