December 2018 was a big month for the world of animation online, with 90% of the films shortlisted for the ‘Animated Short Film’ Oscar available to watch and quite a few festival favourites also released (keep an eye on Short of the Week over the next month to see a few more of those), there was plenty to keep animation fans happy.

It should come as no surprise then, that two of our three favourite picks from our December coverage are animated, but although we haven’t picked one of the Oscar contenders, we have picked a highly acclaimed documentary, a powerful student film and an experimental piece exploring love.
