February was a BIG month at S/W HQ. As we continued to work on the development of our new Short Film Community Platform, in the 28-days of Feb, we also managed to launch our annual Short Awards, publish a playlist of great Black short films, chosen by Black filmmakers and feature a host of potential award winners (with Call Center Blues and Ayn Levana (White Eye) both on the Oscar shortlists and L’Heure de L’Ours (And Then The Bear) nominated for a Cesar).

Team Favourites

For our ‘Best of the Month’ selections, the S/W team have picked a trio of films that inadvertently cover the cycle of life. Tackling pregnancy (and miscarriage), childhood and old-age, these three shorts (all by Female directors) were praised for being “touching and funny in equal measure”, “stunningly animated” and “one of the most atmospheric, captivating films we’ve featured”. Praise indeed.

In a month synonymous with romance, it should come as no surprise that a film centred around love was our most-watched film of February. Brought to screen through pastel animations, painted on printed videos, Daphna Awadish’s charming short Bear with Me tells the stories of those who relocated for love and what moving to a new country did to their relationships.
