There goes your weekend. Cinephile streaming website MUBI is partnering with La Semaine de la Critique (Critics’ Week) in Cannes to celebrate 50 years of its programming by showing a retrospective of films from the festival’s history. Through support from 4+1 Film Festival, each film will be free for the first 1,000 views through June 30.

By my count 56 (!) short films are available. After a thousand views per title though it costs $1 to stream, so more popular films like Patrik Eklund’s followup to Instead of Abracadabra, Seeds of the Fall, or the cult classic, Forklift Driver Klaus have already reached the limit. Furthermore not all the films have subtitles, something I learned to my chagrin when trying to watch Love Patate, a gorgeous animation that has been on my radar a while.

Still it is quite an impressive offering. Might I suggest In a Tight Corner an early work by Bruno Collet, famous for his more recent, fan favorite short, Le Petit Dragon, or innovative found footage music video collage The Def Song? This is definitely not something we’re going to be able to stay on top of, so if you happen to watch some of these films, do your fellow short film lovers a solid and write your thoughts in the comments.
