GLAS brings short film to theatres with touring programme Animation Next

GLAS Animation unveil their latest venture – Animation Next – a collection of seven bold new original short films set to tour select theatres all over the United States this September (2019)

Looking to screen short films in a theatrical setting, outside of the festival environment, GLAS aim to continue their mission to showcase the newest groundbreaking independent animation with this 90-minute programme of touring shorts.

We spoke to Festival Director Jeanette Bonds (Trusts & Estates) and programmer Sean Buckelew (Another, Lovestreams) about what they hope to achieve with this latest exciting project:

“Short films, especially animated, have always felt to us like a special medium that allows filmmakers to tell daring, imaginative and complete stories in a way that is distinct and uniquely different than anything else. Showing the films as a theatrical block also maximizes their potential, creating an ideal viewing context while illuminating a subconscious throughline that coalesces when all the films are seen together, and reveals a lot about the obsessions of these contemporary animators. We also hope this brings people together, especially in places where these films wouldn’t otherwise screen (since most of them are currently touring festivals, and some might never go online).”
