Good morning, short film fans. The nominations for 2015 are in!
It’s an interesting group, and fun to see what did and not make it from the various category shortlists. Surprising snubs include previous winners Lucy Walker in documentary, Moonbot Studios in animation, and, more than a few people think that Bill Plympton is overdue for a win after a 40 year career and multiple nominations. (editor: Lucy Walker is a 2-time nominee not a previous winner)
Per usual, most of these films are not yet available to view online. However, there are a few notable exceptions. First, The Phone Call, from director Mat Kirkby and starring Sally Hawkins, is available to stream right now for free on IndieWire (editor: the film has now been taken offline). Also, the short documentary selection, White Earth is available via Vimeo on-Demand.
As for the rest of them, well, you’re just going to have to wait until Shorts International makes them available via mainstream digital sources. That usually happens in late February after the US theatrical tour for Animation and Live-Action. To stay up to date on when and where you can watch these short films, click here.
