After 4 weeks of furious campaigning, we have the nominees. 30 shortlisted films have been whittled down to 5 finalists in each of the live-action, animated, and documentary short subject categories.

It’s a strong showing for some of our favorites, with Hair Love, SisterKitbull, Nefta Football Club and Brotherhood having received write-ups on our site. Where full films are available to watch, we’ve embedded them below, but you’ll need to act fast to watch them, as starting Jan. 29th the nominees will tour theatrically as part of the Shorts International/Magnolia Pictures screening series, and will likely be removed from online. Trailers are available for the others (with the exception of Saria) so check them out, and then vote for which ones you think will win come February.

6th NFB Online Short Film Competition at Cannes

Continuing what has become a beloved tradition, today kicked off the National Film Board of Canada's Online Short Film Contest. We let you know about it last year too, but if you're unfamiliar here's the deal: the NFB picks 10 short films, tosses them up on YouTube for a limited time and then declares a winner based upon how many "likes" the videos received.
