Short of the Week Partners with Michael Sugar, Cary Fukunaga, & David Gordon Green

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Oscar-winning producer, Michael Sugar (formerly with Anonymous Content), and his new media company Sugar23. Michael, alongside A-list filmmakers, Cary Fukunaga (True Detective, Bond 25) and David Gordon Green (George WashingtonHalloween) have made an investment and joined S/W as Advisors!

Short film is where innovative storytelling is born. With the internet, the quality and diversity of fresh voices is exploding, yet the ladders for this new wave of filmmakers to break into the industry are still underdeveloped. More and more of the filmmakers we work with are looking beyond reaching audiences and toward crafting sustainable careers: how they can turn their short into a feature, break into commercial directing, land a manager, or develop a script for a film or series.

We’re excited to partner with Michael, Cary, and David to further expand the Short of the Week mission of providing a launchpad for the next generation of filmmakers to share their stories on a larger stage. Michael Sugar has incredible experience growing directing talent as a manager for filmmaking visionaries Richard Linklater, Steven Soderbergh, Leslye Headland, Edgar Wright, Patty Jenkins and others, in addition to Cary Fukunaga and David Gordon Green. His new media company, Sugar23, has first look deals with Netflix and Anonymous Content.

“Billions of videos are viewed online every day, and Short of the Week is an incredible platform for filmmakers to reach that large base of viewers while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of what is possible with video content.

—Michael Sugar, Founder & CEO, Sugar23

“Short of the Week consistently champions emerging talent, providing them with the tools and the stage to ultimately become some of the industry’s most innovative storytellers, and we are excited to facilitate even quicker growth for this already fast-rising player.”

We’re excited to make this happen and for what it means, not just for ourselves, but for the entire online short film community that we’ve been honored to champion over the past 12 years. We can’t wait to get started on a few ideas.

Fashion Film Roundup Pt. 1: Scorcese, Miller, Lynch & Ritchie

The assault that the city of New York has been under for the last week, perpetrated by 5'11, birdlike amazons, garbed in freakish war paint and extravagant, yet bizarrely soft battle armor, is now over. I speak of course of Fashion Week New York which ended yesterday, one of the 4 international fashion weeks which rule the industry and establish the direction the fashion world will take in the coming year.
