As you might have noticed, this year we dispense with what has our been our traditional year-in-review Top Ten list (examples here) in order to highlight even more quality deserving content than that stale format allows. The SotW Awards are the result, and last week, after surveying an incredible year's worth of short film picks, we presented our favorite Animation, Live-Action and New Media pieces of 2011.
Following the smashing success of their inaugural festival back in 2010, Vimeo once again called on digital filmmakers from around the world to submit their work. The best of which were honored at last night's award festival with $5,000 grants and $25,000 for the grand prize.

It is an excellent way for fans at home to connect with the goings on, and for short film fans in particular, a great way to spy some of the year's top shorts early in their festival run.
