Following the smashing success of their inaugural festival back in 2010, Vimeo once again called on digital filmmakers from around the world to submit their work. The best of which were honored at last night's award festival with $5,000 grants and $25,000 for the grand prize.
Premium cable channel, Showtime, has rolled out a new batch of visual pieces from established short-form creators, via its "SHORT Stories" program. We covered the first season here, and the lineup this year is just as impressive in terms of talent, bringing back PES and Cyriak, as well as adding big names like Bill Plympton.

Yours truly will be attendance for the first time, but, as it's been for the last 6 years, all of you at home can partake in the excitement too through the Sundance Online Short Film Program. After a two year collaboration with YouTube, the festival has moved to giant content portal Yahoo! and their relatively new video platform Yahoo! Screen.
Tomorrow marks the beginning of this year's Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF), North America's most prestigious outlet for artistic animation. In light of the "close, intimate relationship" the festival has had with the National Film Board of Canada, this playlist of 9 films from the NFB archive was collected for the occasion.

Sunday night at the Edinburgh Film Festival, the much-promoted Nokia Shorts Competition drew to a close with the debut screening of the 8 finalist films. Shot entirely on Nokia phones, the 8 films proved themselves to be worthy entries for one of the more high-profile short film competitions of recent vintage.
Palm Springs! We are very close to the arrival of North America's most important film festival dedicated to shorts. I know not everybody follows the festival scene, and I know it gets confusing because I'm always tweeting that Festival X is the most-_____ festival in all of _____, but for short films, trust me, Palm Springs Shortfest is a pretty big deal.
There goes your weekend. Cinephile streaming website MUBI is partnering with La Semaine de la Critique (Critics Week) in Cannes to celebrate 50 years of its programming by showing a retrospective of films from the festivals history.
