Laughter has a way of making the impossibly uncomfortable a bit more bearable. These boundary-pushing storytellers used a spectrum of humor from the light and quirky to the dark and disturbing that had us both rolling on the floor and learning a little something new along the way.
Whilst many fans of short film love the format for its ability to make us laugh or cry, what often goes unrecognised is the power these bitesize stories hold to truly stimulate the mind. From a bloody pact with a dying wolf to the unveiling of an urban mystery, our Think nominees are the film that made us contemplate and debate throughout the last year.
Among the tens of thousands of films that debuted online over the last year, the 150+ that we featured here on Short of the Week, and the 9 that we've honored here with the SOTW Awards 2013, one stood out above all the others. Not only that, but it's one of the best shorts we've ever experienced.

This years winning live-action filmmakers represent a diverse group: a star feature film directing duo, a veteran commercial director, a pair of award-winning photojournalists, a Canadian writing/directing duo, and a young LA up and comer. What all these creators share is an ability to tell fantastic stories.
