In a rare turn of events, a cursory web search has revealed that at least one of the Oscar live-action short films is online, Luke Doolan's Miracle Fish. The animated shorts often are online, but for various reasons the live action ones don't make it.

The 82nd Annual Oscar Nominated Short Films have been announced with a few surprises.

Sundance kicked off tonight in Park City, Utah. I hadn't heard any advance buzz about the 10/10 online series, a recent Sundance tradition that we covered last year, and so I sadly concluded that the festival had moved away from online distro for short films to instead focus more on its much-heralded pay per view partnership.

Ghost House has just announced they've signed director, Federico Alvarez, to make a $30-$40 million feature film based primarily on the success of his short film, Panic Attack, that has had the online industry buzzing these past few weeks. The obvious parallels with Neill Bloomkamp's Alive in Joburg and the following feature District 9 are there.

Live Music is a short animation that has been buzzed about in creative and traditional media circles for several months now based primarily on its unique production history. Mass Animation, a company specializing in "crowdsourcing"—the process of enlisting the time and expertise of a volunteer force, managed to put together a large creative community to work on the film via a custom Facebook app.
